The Protector of the Past

Time and time again, our lives are on the line.
We never did notice, because of someone from behind.

We continue walking through the danger.
While secretly fostered, by the protector.

While we change, we’ll slowly feel pain.
Our protector slowly turns to grain.

Once our protector is gone.
Our lives will feel like dawn.

Once our lives end,
We’ll meet our protector when we ascend.

GWHS Wrestlers headed for perfection!

The undefeated Washington Eagles had the biggest match of their season on Friday, January 15, 2010 going against the also undefeated Northeast Vikings. The Eagles lost to Northeast last year, so the team already had a bad taste in their mouths and wasn’t going to let history repeat itself.  You could feel the tension between the two teams during the weigh – in.  Both teams staring at each other like hawks –  both saying in their heads, I’m not going to lose.

To start it off was Darell Bailey for the Eagles going out and doing what he was trained to do –  pin the opponent.  The Eagles came out strong with three early pins by Darell Bailey, Giuseppe Marrero, and Albert Hellmig.  This was an intense battle all the way to the end.  The defending champs, Northeast Vikings, were not going to fall without a fight.  It was win for win, back and forth, but the biggest matches were yet to come.  Nariman Lomidze, the undefeated 215 pounder, was up for the Eagles.  He went out with one game plan and that was to make sure his hand was raised at the end of the match. He did just that with his pin and put the Eagles up by six going into the last two matches of the day.  But the Vikings weren’t going down without a fight.  Sergey Neroda, 285 pounder for the Eagles, came up a little short and wasn’t able to produce the same results; he was pinned and this tied the match at 30-30.  Both team’s chance at an undefeated season and their chance to have home field advantage was riding on the last match between ex-Viking-now an Eagle Luis Colon vs. Vikings Joseph Bruno.  Their match was pretty even all the way through, but Luis Colon, being the experienced wrestler he is (and most would say the best 103 pounder in the public league) was able to get his opponent in a head lock in the second period and take him to the ground where he stayed until the pin.  The Eagles bench went bananas knowing that their undefeated reign in the public league would continue for another week moving them one step closer to the championship.

The musing of oneself: good or bad?

Musing is when one is looking at their own thoughts and feelings.

If we did it daily would it be bad for us? I mean, I have done it before — I asked myself questions that I never thought I would ask. As time moved,  I just kept asking myself more and more questions, hoping they would be one day answered.

Slowly but surely I became a bit addicted to this. My feelings and my words slowly connected to each other. Every feeling that I have felt placed in words, then sentences, and finally they became pages and pages of unreleased feelings. By doing things this way,  I somehow feel my sanity is kept in check, but I wonder what would I have become if I had never done this?

Well, I can’t really tell you if it’s good or bad, but why don’t you try it out? That way, if you can experience it too, you can figure out if it’s bad or not. Different people have different point of views.

Field Hockey team plays an amazing season

Seniors on 2009 Field Hockey Team

By Andrea Kusselson, Class of 2010

The field hockey team had one of its best seasons ever. The odds were against the team, with two new coaches and almost half the team having graduated last year.

The new coaches are Ms. Tunney and Mrs. Hughes.  Ms. Tunney is brand new to the school, and Mrs. Hughes had not coached in years. The team started off in a scrimmage versus Archbishop Ryan, which the Eagles lost, but this only made the players work harder.

Pet Peeves: navigating high school

Pinball in the hall

Did you ever wonder how it feels to be a pinball? Well, I know how it feels. Being in a crowded hall in this school has given me an example of how it feels. The groups of students are the ‘bumpers,’ and I am the ‘pinball.’ Instead of a pinball trying to hit the bumpers, I am avoiding them.

As the one of the ‘bumpers’ hit me, I go off, trying to stop myself from hitting another one. Eventually I drop to a ‘gap’ (classroom) where I safely sit until I’m ejected out toward the ‘bumpers’ once again, until it’s game over (school’s out). Remember the feeling and never play pinball again!!

Razing Road Rage

You know what annoys me? When the bell rings at the end of the day and people push and shove all over the place! I mean, yeah, you’re in a hurry to get to your beloved bus and go home, but come on, so is everyone else. Though when you push and shove others, all that happens is that it either makes you late or it causes other people to get mad.

But really, to those who are trying to get out, if you are just standing around the door, you are making more and more people get shoved and pushed around. So remember people, the less you shove then quicker we will all get out!

iPod Not iHome

Now this is a problem that most people have. They sing songs out loud while listening to their iPods! Ok, I don’t care if you like to sing, or your friends think that your singing is good. Go sing in the showers, or in your room! I don’t really want to hear you singing in the halls, or classrooms. I mean, no offense, but I’d rather not walk into to class and BAM! Random singing out of nowhere.

Whether you keep doing this or not, I want to say one thing: If you want to sing, sing in your head!
