Sports Marketing students attend Wings game

By Sandybel Cedeno-Casanova, Preston Johns, Steven Lorenzo, and Dominic Nieves

Some students from the sophomore Sports Marketing class received free tickets to attend the Philadelphia Wings game as members of their Student Reporter program.   We had a pre-game interview with John Christmas and the rookie, Brodie MacDonald.

We got to learn a little more about the team and the players and had a chance to ask questions about how their lives were before they were on the team and how it feels to be on the team now.   After the interview we left the press room and reported to our box seats.  There, in the box, we had full sights of the rink where the game was being played.   The stadium was so energized and full of life!  Then moments later the Philadelphia Wings and Buffalo Bandits played against each other.

The Wings suffered a loss at the hands of the Bandits overwhelming offense. So after the game was over we reported to a press conference room where we got to ask the head coach, John Tucker, and one of their best defensive players, Taylor Wray,  how they felt about the game, their team, how the other team did, and how they felt about losing.  We asked Coach Tucker what  he thinks his team needs to work on more so that they can win in the next game and he stated, “The next practice we need to work more on face off, running the offense and to shoot better.”   He promises to do better.

This game was very interesting because it was the first time we  experienced a lacrosse game and we all enjoyed it very much.  All of the players had a turn and a chance to prove “everything they got,”  and though they lost, they showed good work and potential.  Maybe they’ll get them next time!

Happy New Year!

Today is 2011 and this year is a new year for everybody.  Just about everyone is trying to be different because they all probably made a New Year’s resolution.  But I don’t understand why it has to be a new year for someone to want to change their life around or be different.

Honestly, I believe it’s okay to do that because when I grew up, I would make promises and goals for myself to become better every new year, but as I got older I wondered why do we have to wait for the new year to want to become better people?  Why can’t we just wake up that morning saying I want to change my life around and then just do it?

Well I believe it is because most kids believe that they can’t just change overnight and that’s true, but I also believe you can change over time so there is no reason to wait for a special time of the year to say you want to change your life.  Just DO IT!

Music review: All Star Weekend

By Preston Johns, Class of 2013

From the Disney Channel to the world,ALLSTAR WEEKEND is a new band with a lot of determination and talent, and I believe that this group will reach every goal they set out to make.

The band consists of lead singer Zach Porter, lead guitarist Nathan Darmody, bassist Cameron Quiseng, and drummer Michael Martinez. These young men are selling out seats back to back in there promo “Suddenly Summer Tour”, for their new album “Suddenly Yours”. The band first rose to fame when they were contestants on the Disney Channel special “Next Big Thing” in 2009; they were shortly after signed with Hollywood Records.

ALLSTAR WEEKEND has released three  hot singles , “Dance Forever”,  “A Different Side of Me” and  “Come Down With Love”,  that are holding strong on a few billboards.

ALLSTAR WEEKEND is a great band.  For more information about the band, check out their website at http://www.allstarweekendrocks.com/

Does love exist?

By Huschai Severe, Class of 2011

Many people have wondered for years does love exist, and where can it be found?  Many have been disappointed because of their failure to what seems to be an endless journey. Have you ever wondered why it is so hard to find love? Have you considered that you are looking in the wrong places?

You had a bad relationship and failed to believe in love. Then you find that one special person and believe that there is still hope, but that relationship ends up in a disaster and you are back at that place where you are sitting on the couch eating ice cream and watching Hitch starring Will Smith.  This is what the world says love is:  love is said to be a feeling of intense desire and attraction toward a person with whom one is disposed to make a pair. Now let’s be real; often times we are attracted to more than one person. It could be that one hot co-worker, or even that one sexy anchor woman or man, or maybe even that one hot soccer mom that you love seeing pick up the balls after every practice, or even those scrumptious girls or boys you see at the mall. The world says if I’m attracted to them, I automatically love them without even knowing them personally. They could be pretty on the outside, but be a bitch on the inside. (Excuse me for my language) Since I know you have been in broken down, beat up, fed up, disappointed, and hurt relationships in the past, let me help you discern if someone truly loves you or not.

First of all love is not a word that you should bounce around with. If you have the courage to say it then you should act on it because love is an action word. Okay here we go, you ready?   God is love. Now since God is love, love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails. Since God is love and he is all these elements, then you can only find true love in God through his son Jesus the Christ who died for your sins because he loves you so much and will continue to love you no matter what. Come to Jesus and let him in your heart and you will find true love, the thing you have been searching for in people. I promise you that you won’t be disappointed. Just be patient and let him work in you his love.
